Penticton Triathlon Club

August 22, 2005 Minutes

Minutes of July meeting were reviewed

Finance update:  we currently have $3477.25 in the account

The supported ride went well on July 23; last minute participants brought the numbers up to about 15 people.  Overall, the feedback was good.  Some changes for next year will be to get more accurate ideas from people on the speed they think they will be going so that groups are more even and vehicles are not going back and forth.  It would then be the responsibility of the athlete to wait for their vehicle if they ride faster than anticipated.  We need to re-imburse Brad for any expense he had to personally cover.

The Osooyoos half iron was also a success.  It is confirmed that it will run again next year, with the same course so far.  It was very organized, transition was set up well and the dinner/meeting area was within walking distance of the race start and finish.

Apple Nationals also went well; lots of entrants with an interesting swim and plenty of fast times.  No one who did the course was present.

Jerseys were handed out at a newspaper photo that took place on Friday, not sure who organized this as it was originally planned for today at Anthony’s to coincide with the pasta dinner.  Good feedback from the jerseys; good job Gord.  Gord needs a copy of a list of local club members who are doing ironman so he can do the reimbursements.  (Brad, can you get this to him? Or let me know where I can get a current list)

Plans for the fall are:

Review and possible adjust club mission statement to reflect the present club makeup and where we wish to go.

Continue to make updates and additions to the website.  We still need a paragraph or two to explain how the club started, the history, etc.

Define a media liason position to help collect photos and race results that can be forwarded to local papers and radio stations, or other ways to inform the public.  This person could also help with some publicity for events or with new people.  Tammy (Szabo?) said she may be interested.

Consider re-introducing the bare bones tris

Possibly host a Beginners triathlon, maybe the Saturday before the Peach, after the kids race.

James P. expressed an interest in starting a club ride mid-week, he will be forwarding some info to Diane for the website about it, and we can send out a club email as well.

Meeting finished at about 5:15, when people arrived for the pasta dinner.  Good turnout, nice day!
