Description![]() The Barley Mill Pub Bare Bones Duathlon is a Multisport event that includes a 5km run, followed immediately by a 32km cycle portion, and concludes with a repeat of the 5km run. The event is open to individual competitors, who will "transition" from one activity to the next, in a transition area, which will also be the Start/Finish area, in the Skaha Beach East Parking Lot (at the end of Cypress St.). The start of the first run will have runners exit the west side of the parking lot, run along the path between the softball diamond and the lagoon to Lee Ave., and head east to South Main St. They'll turn right onto South Main St, then right in to Skaha Lake Park. They will head west again, along the beach-front path, to the Parkview cul-de-sac. near the Skaha Concession. Runners will turn right onto Parkview St., then right onto Elm Ave. and run east, back to the Skaha Beach East Parking Lot (start/finish area). This "loop" is 1.68km and will be completed three times per run portion. At the end of the third loop, runners will re-enter the Skaha Beach East Parking Lot to Transition 1. Competitors will run their bike to the north carpark exit, mounting their bike as they exit the parking lot. They'll head north on Cypress St., turning right onto Lee Avenue, then turn right on South Main, continuing south on Lakeside Road. Upon reaching Okanagan Falls, cyclist will turn left on Maple Street, then left on McLean Creek Rd. They'll follow that road until it re-connects with Lakeside Rd, where they'll turn right. They'll return along Lakeside, South Main, left into Lee Ave, left onto Cypress and into the Skaha Beach East Parking Lot transition area. After dismounting their bikes, they'll re-run the exact same run course (3 loops again) before finishing back in the Skaha Beach East Parking Lot. In order to safely run this event, there will need for periodic road closures or limited access, on Lee Avenue and Cypress St between 2pm and 5pm. Race officials with Stop/Slow paddles control this, as required. Officials will also be placed on all intersections along the bike and run course, to warn traffic of the race-in-progress and to direct athletes if necessary. The run course will be marked with orange traffic cones and athletes will receive a full course description, prior to race start.
